Description: The Tuc deth Pòrt de Vielha is one of the classic ski touring ascents in the Val d’Aran. A key transport route for people, livestock and goods, and the site of many historic events, for centuries, until the building of the tunnel, the Pòrt de Vielha was one of the most important passes between the northern and southern sides of the central Pyrenees. At this watershed between the Atlantic and the Mediterranean, the views from the pass towards Feixans, Molières, Aneto and Maladeta are second to none. However, this ascent should only be attempted when the snow is deep enough to completely cover the characteristically rocky mountainside, especially on the higher reaches of the route.
